Requires Internet Explorer browser

Unfortunately, SharePoint requires using Internet Explorer for some key functionality, including adding attachments to discussion threads and logout (but not login, interestingly). I use Mozilla Firefox 1.5.

Have you experienced any other problems with non-IE browsers?

special access for "APLN board links?"

Kent, does the list "apln board links" require special access?  I'm poking around the site for the getting started guide and can's access it.  I don't really need to access it, just to know if it requires special access.

But if it is a private zone just for the board, maybe it should be tucked away someplace less obvious.  So it doesn't remind regular users that they...

having local chapter links in two places?

Kent, at the moment, there are two different places a new user might look for links to local chapters.  This may seem like it's easier to use, but it actually confuses things for the beginning user and provides no benefit for users who work with the site regularly.

I suggest that we keep the local chpater links in the "local chapters" section on the lower right home page, and...

Trying to cover this in the GSG

I'm trying to cover this difference in the GSG by providing only instructions that don't use the IE features.

Lack links back to APLN home page

The chapter sites use different formats (which is fine), but some, such as Richmond, seem to lack any link back to the APLN home. The only way I can get back is with the browser's back button.

having local chapter links in two places?

The webpart on the front page with the local chapters is actually tied to the List of Local Chapters, so while it looks as though there are two lists, they are really the same one just accessed from two different places.

If there is a real concern about confusion, we could remove the link from the Quick Launch, but I'm inclined to leave it there for the time being.

special access for "APLN board links?"

That is one of the things that I do not like about sharepoint is that links to some things that have restricted permissions show up for everyone.

Yes, this list has a little bit tighter permissions, because it includes links to some administrative sites.  I have removed the listing of it from the Quick Launch bar.

Lack links back to APLN home page

Any of the local chapter sites that are built using Sharepoint will have a link to the APLN Members Network in the upper right hand corner.  If the local chapter hosts a site outside of the Sharepoint site, it is up to that local chapter to provide links back to the APLN Members Network. That is what happening in the case of the Richmond - they are using a wiki.

Requires Internet Explorer browser

Yep. Click the logoff button from Firefox and a dialog box pops up that says this feature requires MS IE 6 SP 1 or newer.
While Sharepoint is a nice technology for collaboration within an enterprise, I would suggest that for an organization such as APLN, that there are alternatives that provide the necessary collaboration features needed to sustain the community with minimal assumptions about...
